Satin Shimmer breaks through in style

Satin Shimmer (I Am Invincible x Satin Socks)

Following an incredibly frustrating run missing races due to wide barriers and wet tracks, it was a joy in itself to get Satin Shimmer back to the track today at Muswellbrook. In the event she provided even more cheer when running on strongly in the straight to defeat her rivals in great style under jockey Jean van Overmeire.

Satin Shimmer is a homebred for Belinda Bateman, who also raced her dam, the city winner Satin Socks, and her grandam, Group 2 Silver Slipper winner Satin Shoes, who was a JHB yearling purchase at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Satin Shoes has been a remarkable producer, not least for the fact that she has produced seven fillies on a row, all of which have been retained by Belinda.

Satin Socks has a Capitalist 2YO, who sold for $380,000 to Vinery Stud at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. She also has a very nice Stay Inside colt yearling to sell in 2025, is in foal to King’s Legacy and visits Snitzel in 2024.

Congratulations again to Belinda Bateman, and many thanks to trainers Adrian Bott & Gai Waterhouse and to jockey Jean van Overmeire.

We were very active during the broodmare section of the sale, securing thirteen lots, with their details below;

Lot 520 - Miss Invincible - $200,000

A beautiful physical, she was also a very smart race mare, five times a city winner and stakes placed at her favoured sprinting distances. She comes from a very productive family, with plenty of relations in the breeding population giving good chances for further updates.

Lot 591 - Spirituality - $100,000

Lot 591 - Spirituality - $100,000

With our focus on speed mares, we were delighted to secure Spirituality from Kitchwin Hills. She was a very precocious sort, as are many of the Spirit of Boom breed, and ran a close fourth to Wild Ruler in the Inglis Nursery as an early 2YO. She comes from the great family of Duporth and Excites and is also closely related to the smart Brisbane sprinter Tiyatrolani.

Lot 637 - Ballistica - $12,500

With a great focus on Sydney and Melbourne metropolitan form in the market, we were very pleased to secure Ballistica from Yarraman Park’s draft for just $12,500. She was a city winner in Sydney and multiple times placed at that level also, earning over $150,000 on the track.

Yet another well-performed, sprinting mare to join the team was Hold The Line, secured for $100,000 from Kenmore Lodge. This beautiful mare was four times a winner at city level, and also a very good second in the Listed Chief de Beers Handicap.

Lot 721 - Still Reigning - $600,000

Our final purchase amongst the race filly section of the broodmare sale was Still Reigning, secured from Kitchwin Hills for $600,000 on behalf of Fergus Doyle. She is a winning full-sister to the Group 2 Silver Slipper winner Time to Reign and a half-sister to Group 1 Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign. A strong filly with tremendous quality, she joins Fergus’ select broodmare band at Willow Park Stud.

Lot 758, 766 and 767 - shares in Extreme Choice - average price $210,000

An interesting part of the breeding stock sales is always when the stallion shares are offered, and this year presented a unique offering with six shares in boom young stallion Extreme Choice on offer. We were delighted to team up with Meredith Park to secure three of these at an average of $210,000. With a Group 1 Golden Slipper winner in his first crop, Extreme Choice looks a very exciting stallion going forward and with limited access due to his fertility, these shares represent a great commercial opportunity.

Lot 822 - Taraayef - $1,200,000

Lot 822 - Taraayef - $1,200,000

The Shadwell dispersal also generated tremendous interest in the sale, with an outstanding amount and variety of quality on offer. We secured lot 822, the stakes-winning Lonhro mare Taraayef in foal to Deep Field for $1,200,000. She is a half-sister to stakes winner Haybah and comes from an outstanding Australian family.

The purchase of Double Dee represents something of a homecoming for her, as she was secured for Bob Hannon’s Ascot Park, who also bred both her and her Cox Plate winning half-brother Shamus Award. A city winner in her own right, she was secured from Davali Thoroughbreds in foal to exciting young stallion Hellbent.

Lot 1301 - Harto - $650,000

Our last, but certainly not least, purchase was Harto, secured from Strawberry Hill Stud alongside Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $650,000. A breath-taking physical, she is a Sydney city winning daughter of Fastnet Rock and was sold in foal to hot sire So You Think. She is also out of the top-class mare More Strawberries, who is a half-sister to Group 1 winner All American.

Homebred fillies have a day out at Canberra

Part of our portfolio management services is to oversee the careers of any retained homebreds, and it was super to see the results of this come to fruition at Canberra today at Pretty Woman and Molly Nails both saluted for their breeders.

Molly Nails was first to race, in the Canberra Guineas Preview, and after looming to challenge in good style, fought on bravely to deny the smart runner-up Yaletown. Molly Nails is now a dual winner from just three starts for Canberra trainer Matt Dale, who has handled her superbly.

She is the first foal of JHB broodmare purchase Maritimo, who was purchased carrying this filly for $575,000 at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in 2017 for Fergus Doyle. Maritimo has since had a Snitzel colt sell to Coolmore for $475,000. She has a lovely Fastnet Rock filly weanling and is in foal to Pariah at Willow Park Stud, where she resides and who did a great job raising Molly Nails.

Pretty Woman took her place later on the card and was a powerful winner of the Black Opal Preview, showing great speed to lead throughout and forging clear in the straight. Her time of 56.50 was a class record and the second fastest ever 1000m run at Canberra, which is astonishing for a 2YO. She is the second foal of JHB broodmare purchase Undoubted Pleasure, who was bought for $100,000 at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in 2016 for Donna & Rob Love.

Undoubted Pleasure has previously had 2YO winner Johnny Boss, who was sold for $310,000 off a $20,000 Deep Field service. She also has a Capitalist yearling filly in training with Matt Dale and is in foal to Triple Crown winner Pierro at Newgate Farm, where she resides. Like Molly Nails, Pretty Woman has been expertly handled by her trainer Matt Dale at Canberra, and looks a most exciting prospect.

Both fillies are now likely to head into stakes grade, and any black type would further enhance these broodmare purchases and cement both portfolios going forward.
